Last night, I wore a long evening dress to a not-even-that-fancy dinner, and today I wore workout clothes to a frou-frou brunch. I could have worn the yoga pants to dinner or the evening gown to brunch, and whatever I did, it would have worked. Why? Because I threw a leather jacket over both outfits.
A good leather jacket is the number one best fashion investment a girl can make. As you may have noticed, I wear this Iro jacket All. The. Time. And the more I wear it, the better it looks. A leather jacket is the great outfit normalizer. It makes a super casual outfit (like sweats) look trendy and cool, and tones down a gown to make it everyday appropriate. For me, this is perfection because I'm one of those girls who goes shopping for jeans and tops and leaves the store with 4 cocktail dresses and a pile of yoga pants. It's all I wear: fancy dresses and Nike gear, highs and lows, and it's not a problem at all because I wear a leather jacket with all of it.
Another one of the best purchases I ever made? These thigh-high boots. It was freezing the week I took these photos in New York, but the boots kept my legs warm so I could pop around town in mini skirts. And when I felt to cold to care about wearing something stylish, I threw the boots over a comfy pair of black pants and a t-shirt, then added my beloved leather jacket and made it an awesome outfit.
When it comes to fashion, keep it simple, stupid. Buy good basics and then stock up on V-neck tees. Once you have those, you can get all the impractical cocktail dresses you want because, you actually WILL wear them.
