I'm a believer in the weekend getaway. More so, in the weekday getaway. Even more, in getting away whenever I feel so inspired. Living in a city like LA makes this easy to do with Las Vegas, San Fran, Scottsdale, Laguna Beach and other mini-break destinations so close. The same is true for New York, so last week when I found myself with a free few days during an extended stay in Manhattan, I naturally wanted to get away and explore more of the East Coast. In this winter weather, the Hamptons aren't that much fun, and I'm bored of D.C after like 3 dozen family trips there as a child, and I didn't have my ski gear. So, Boston it was.

I checked into the Mandarin Oriental, which is one of two hotels in Boston I love. While the Mandarin is gorgeous, the best thing about it is the neighborhood. On Boylston Street in Back Bay, it rests in a beautiful pedestrian part of the city, close to my favorite things: Intermix, Shake Shack, a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant and the Nike store. Plus: brownstones as far as the eye can see.

My friend and photographer Lisa Richov took me on a tour of the area, popping into Stephanie's on Newbury and sending me to Yvonne's for dinner. And of course, we took some photos.

Two great restaurants, one great hotel, dozens of great photos and one perfect afternoon with a friend: check. And, back to NY.
